in reverse

In 2005, my life took an unexpected turn when my wife received a devastating diagnosis of a terminal illness. Given a prognosis of 4-5 years, I made the decision to become her full-time caregiver. At that time, I held the position of President and CEO at a National Investment Firm, overseeing a dedicated team of 700+ Financial Advisors based in Omaha, NE.

In 2006, realizing the importance of focusing entirely on my wife’s well-being, I made the choice to retire. We relocated to beautiful San Diego, where we could embrace the wonderful weather and find solace in a new environment.

In 2009, I made the decision to purchase a beautiful home in the Aviara section of Carlsbad. Instead of paying cash, the mortgage company introduced me to an innovative financial product known “Reverse for Purchase”. After careful consideration and analyzing the numbers, it became clear that making a 40% down payment would allow me to forego mortgage payments for as long as I resided in the home. This strategy allowed me to keep the remaining 60% of the funds actively working for me in the market, while solely being responsible for Real Estate Taxes and Homeowners insurance.

Following the loss of my wife, a new chapter in my life began. Leveraging my extensive 30+ years of experience in Financial Planning, I embarked on a new career path. I collaborated with Financial Advisors, Insurance Agents, and CPAs to enhance their clients’ retirement plans by incorporating Reverse Mortgage products. It is important to note that I have no conflicts of interest, as I do not engage in the sale of real estate or financial products, nor do I enter any planning engagements. I maintain my professional standing with up-to-date CFP CE requirements, ensuring that I provide the highest level of expertise and service.

I am excited to announce that I now own my own company, “Retirement in Reverse”. Not only do I get to meet wonderful people, but I get to provide objective, competent advice about Reverse Mortgages. In addition, after six years of serving on the Executive Board of Serving Seniors, I continue to provide valuable philanthropic advice to the organization. I am also a co-founder of Senior Life Source Inc., a 501(c)(3) company, where our mission is to empower employees of large companies with essential education on aging. I am also honored to be a member of the North County Estate Planning Council.

Our mortgage payment was a big chunk of our budget each month but we wanted to find ways to reduce our expenses. We hear of reverse mortgages but were skeptical. So when our financial advisor suggested we talk to Ted Lange when were impressed. He addressed our concerns, led us through the process, and went to work for us. In fact, several years later Ted contacted us to refinance our loan giving us additional funds. It is great having Ted Lange, as a true professional looking out for you. We could not be happier with the results!
